The Doge’s Palace was not only the seat of government, but also the Palace of Justice. Justice was administrated in a modern and effective way in the Official Chambers (open to the public without restictions), and in the so called secret part of the Doge’s Palace, situated inside one of the ancient towers of the ducal castle (reservation is mandatory).
This is a unique chance to go deeper into the history of Venice, its efficient socal organization and its system of justice. From courtyard, we enter the Pozzi, (Wells) the hadest cells where one could hardly survive, we climb a narrow staircase in order to reach the offices of burocracy. We see the Chamber of Tortures and then we enter the Piombi, the prison under the roof of the Palace, where the famous Giacomo Casanova escaped form. We can also take a look at the attic of the huge Sala del Maggior Consiglio (Room of the Great Council). Finally we continue the institutional itinerary onto the Brdge of Sighsand the New Prisons.
